Oh man, what a weekend for Iron Men! Many people on the team decided to race CCCX on Saturday and then travel to the Napa Valley Dirt Classic on Sunday or go to Santa Cruz for a circle race on roadies. It sounded like Alex had an incredible day on Sunday to rebound after his deflated day on Saturday. Mark was also riding well according to reports I heard.
Up in Napa, Greg drove up with me, Bri and Brett and we met up with Steve Kelley to bring a pretty strong assault to the Dirt Classic this year. The course was a bit dry but super fun! A little faster than I remember from 3 years ago (Bri would point out that at my advanced age the gray matter doesn't have the same capacity to fire like it once did...). Lots of flow-ee fire roads, tight technical woods trails and a PUSH your bike climb! I was able to latch onto Greg who was absolutely FLYING through the technical stuff!!! We moto'd along and it was sweet!
Bri was sick all week and rode the first 16miles of race to darn near perfection, sharing the lead and going for it in typical "attack" fashion! Unfortunately, she blew herself to bits and bonked so hard she wasn't sure she would finish. Fortunately she persevered and can take the fact that she can ride hard for 16 miles with her into the 10 mile SOC course!
Brett was really happy with his ride and Steve Kelley proved that the Yeti can hold its own on the flats of CCCX land or the hills of Napa! After seeing him ride the technical stuff, I'll bet he had the YETI PINNED TO THE MOON at Napa!
In the end it was great weekend of riding!
